Duties and responsibilities
  • Organizing and carrying out studies in the field of educational theory at all levels of higher education.
  • Leading research and development work in the field of educational theory, including curriculum studies and the conceptualization of Estonian educational history and sociology of education.
  • Supervising doctoral and master’s students.
  • Finding means for scientific research.
  • Cooperating internationally in the field of research on educational theory and participating in professional networks, including editorial work in journals and organizing scientific conferences.
  • International-level research in the volume equivalent to at least two doctoral theses in five years.
  • Doctoral dissertations defended under the supervision of the professor within five years.
  • Ensuring the availability of the resources necessary for the research group's work, including research grants.

Required qualifications
PhD or an equivalent qualification.

Required experience
  • Previous work experience as a professor, associate professor, docent, lead researcher or senior researcher or in a corresponding position in foreign countries.
  • Successful teaching and research in the field of educational sciences at all levels of higher education.
  • Previous high-level research work in educational research, including curriculum studies, interpretation of Estonian educational history or educational sociology.
  • Successful experience of leading a research group and supervising doctoral students, which has led to the defence of doctoral students.
  • Experience in creating educational materials for use in higher education institutions.
  • Knowledge of innovative learning tools, learning environments, learning methods and their development possibilities.

Required language skills
High-level English language skills. Estonian language at least B1-level is recommended. According to the Language Act, academic staff with foreign citizenship working in Estonia must have acquired at least B1-level Estonian language skills after five years of work. This requirement will be added to the contract. The Centre for Professional Development offers foreigners and their family members the opportunity to participate in Estonian language courses.

  3. A list of research publications (if necessary, enclosing copies or offprints of more important publications).
  4. A copy of a document (including its annexes) which shows the candidate to hold the required qualification (with authorized translation into Estonian, English or Russian if the credential is not in Estonian, English, Russian, Finnish, Swedish, French, Italian, Ukrainian and Belarussian languages). A candidate can be required to submit the original or a certified copy of the document (including its annexes) showing the candidate to hold the required qualification. If the candidate has acquired the higher education in question abroad, he or she may be required to submit an assessment issued by the Academic Recognition Information Centre (the Estonian ENIC/NARIC) of his or her qualification in respect of the qualification requirements for the position.
  5. A statement not exceeding 1500 words of the aims to be achieved during the term in the position, and the outline of an action plan for achieving these.
  6. Other materials considered relevant by the candidate (a list of such materials must be included in the application or annexed to it).
